The NWAF Book Search Project ...

... saves books, pamphlets and artifacts – which may otherwise end up on a trash pile – through referral to U.S. libraries and to the National Library of Wales.

Through publicity in the press, word of mouth and notices to Welsh-American societies and meetings, individuals are advised of this service. With notice of the availability of a publication, a complete description is provided to interested libraries in this country and Wales. While libraries in the United States have first choice, most are sent to the National Library of Wales since many of the publications are in Welsh.  Over 400 publications have been saved with the Foundation paying shipment costs to libraries.

Examples of recent contributions to the National Library of Wales include:

  • a biography of Welsh-American clergyman, Llewelyn D. Howell
  • a history of the Calvinistic Methodist Church in Aberdyfi, Wales
  • a memoir of the Rev. R.H. Evans, in English, published in Kansas City
  • a collection of hymns written by Rev. J.A. Jones
  • a history of the American Civil War written in Welsh by J. Mather Jones and T.B. Morris (Utica 1866)
  • a book about American evangelists, Moody and Sankey (Utica 1878)

Typical of acknowledgements was one received from Richard E. Huws, Assistant Librarian (Donations), Department of Printed Books of the National Library of Wales:
